Places and forms of power/aide
Message de elenaciuta posté le 06-05-2015 à 16:07:42 (S | E | F)
Bonjour,
j'ai rédigé la synthèse de la première notion pour le Bac. Si vous pouviez m'aider à la corriger et me dire ce que vous en pensez ce serait génial
Merci pour votre aide.

I’m going to talk about the notion of ‘places and forms of power’. First of all, I would like to give a definition of power. Power is the ability to control others, is the ability to influence the people. Nowadays, we're living in a high-tech consumer society, and new forms of power have emerged like marketing. This of course, leads to conflict between those who have and exercise power and those none or little power. This way, we can ask ourselves if the consumer society alienate us? To illustrate this notion, I have chosen to focus on the power of the society. First, I will show if the consequences of the globalization, is it beneficial or not for the society. After, eventually I will relate it with consumer society.
Firstly, we have listened to an audio ‘The Mexican Dream’. This document deals of a recently released study from the Pew Hispanic Center on Mexican immigration to the United States who has dropped sharply in recent years. We can see that the number of Mexicans coming to the U.S is now equal to the number of Mexicans migrating away from U.S back to Mexico. One of the raisons is the economic crisis of U.S because there is a high unemployment rate in U.S, sector of construction is particularly affected. On the contrary the conditions economy in Mexico improved indeed if you are an undocumented immigrant, life is easier in Mexico than in U.S.A.
It is favorable for the society but this globalization also engenders even stronger disparity.
Secondly, we worked on two cartoons. On the first cartoon we can see a crowd running into a shopping center. They going to the sales and they expect to make good bargain. They are holding bank note in their hands which they look eager to spend. And the second picture we can see a huge poster representing Father Christmas drinking a coke. The poster is posted on a dilapidated wall and is half-torn. A group of people, a woman with children are walking along the wall, they are carrying bags and boxes on their heads. They may have picked up waste from a wasteland nearby. These people live in a developing country they certainly can’t afford to buy the drink which is advertised.
The juxtaposition of the two images is an idea of contrast between developed countries where people all over consume and poor countries where people have barely enough (a peine assé) to make ends meet (rejoindre les 2 bouts).
We can clearly see the consumer society creates inequalities and while we over consume, some people in other parts of the world lack the bare necessities (manqué de besoins essential). That is one of the consequences of the globalization in the world; this poster has no place here!

Thirdly, we have took about the audio, ‘Marketing to children’ who is also a way of consume. So that the society consumes more and more, advertisements try to target more and more children. For to reach children and teenagers the companies use internet, they encourages them to talk to their friends and speak with them about new products. But this marketing have consequences to children, they feel insecure and it has impact on their mental health.

To conclude/ to som it up, the consumer society manipulates us and persuades us that when we consume, we're happy. If we can have everything what we want, I think that it’s impossible to be happy. In fact, it was probably the patience, the way to wait a long time for have somethings who create this feeling of happiness.
We have to realize that we are influence by the society with her technologies; televisions, internet…
By buying what we want, just to belong to the consumer society, we let us become foreign has we even.

Hello,
