Rest /singular or plural

Could you help me please? Thank you for your answers.
Am I correct thinking that "the rest" can be used both with singular and plural verbs, like is/are?
E.g. "the rest is history" or "the rest of the students are busy".

Yes you are right as it depends on the context; it may be used as a singular or as a plural.
