Parts of hand/help
Message from jedi56 posted on 19-02-2014 at 17:15:18 (D | E | F)
Hello to everybody,
I know the finger in the middle, the famous one, is known as 'the middle finger', that is correct but...
Can we know it as 'the heart finger' as well?
Thank you in advance.

Hello,
the fourth finger of the hand is called ring finger (usually where a wedding ring is worn).
Quotation from Wikipedia reads as follows :
"Before medical science discovered how the circulatory system functioned, people believed that a vein ran directly from the third finger on the left hand to the heart. Because of the hand-heart connection, they chose the descriptive name vena amoris, Latin for the vein of love, for this particular vein."
That's also why rings are put on this finger,to signify faithfulness to wedding vows, usually it's the left hand one, sometimes the right hand one.
Bye bye and good luck,
carlabice

Hello, carlabice47.
Giving me such information about heart-finger was very kind of you. Here in Spain we call it 'dedo corazón' for both hands, because of that I thought in English it could be called the same way. In fact I think I have seen it written somewhere that way.
As I said, thank you so much!

Hello !

The names of the fingers :
The thumb
The forefinger (usually used to show what's before you)
The middle finger
The ring finger
The little finger ....

Not very original, but true ! and easy to remember !

Hello.

I call the finger next to the thumb the "index finger", and the finger farthest from the thumb the "pinky".
See you.
