Bonjour,
je vous fais part de la présentation de mon sujet de Mémoire en anglais,et si j'ai fait des fautes, merci de m'aider s'il vous plait
This thesis (dissertation) examines Napoleon Bonaparte during his invasion of Egypt from 1798-1801 and how the campaign demonstrates a(n) financial failure. Indeed, the character I want to mention is Martin Roch Xavier Esteve, the treasurer of the crown or financial backer of Napoleon.
Furthermore, Martin Roch Xavier Estève (1772-1853), General treasurer of France, served as the general administrator of finances in Prussia during the Napoleonic occupation.
He accompanied General Napoleon in three campaigns. The first is the Italian campaign where he pays the army. Then, where it performs the most important work is the Egyptian campaign. It administers the country entirely, economically, financial. Finally, he became Director of Finance of Prussia in 1806 during the third campaign.
The French attempt to exert influence over Egypt was due to economics, a political need to weaken Britain
Within three months, the young general had raised and outfitted an expeditionary force of just under 40,000, which included scientists, engineers and veteran troops from the Army of Italy.
On the way, the French seized Malta, and its considerable treasury, and then proceeded on towards Alexandria where the city fell to Bonaparte within hours of the French fleet's arrival.
Esteve remained in Alexandria from July to August, then he is gone to Cairo to stay several months and start work. It is a secondary man in Napoleonic history but has played an important part in financial matters and in the administration of a country like Egypt.
Regarding his biography, hired in 1792, Esteve begins in the services of the 'paymaster armies "and then spent three years as" general accountant director of public revenue. "
Paymaster General of the Eastern Army, Esteve followed the First Consul in the campaigns of Italy and Egypt, and always distinguished by his fidelity and zeal to fulfill jobs that were entrusted to him.
He was then attached to the house of Napoleon civil as General Treasurer of the Crown, he was staying in that capacity in the imperial palace of the Tuileries.
Treasurer of the Government in 1801, the Emperor in 1804, it is charged after Jena (1806) to manage the Prussian finances as "Director-General of Finance and conquered areas of the country beyond the Elbe." It is made Empire Count February 24, 1809.
Disgraced in 1811 he gave up his treasurer general function of the crown to the Baron of La Bouillerie that contrary to what was his successor, gave a part of the treasure to the Count of Artois.
