Help/my heart burdened be
Message from fearnot posted on 21-06-2017 at 12:01:43 (D | E | F)
Hello,
Please tell me about the grammar structure of this sentence (from the song "You Raise Me Up"):
"When troubles come and my heart burdened be"
(I don't understand "my heart burdened be").
Please help!

"You Raise Me Up"

When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary,
When troubles come and my heart burdened be
Then I am still and wait here in the silence
Until you come and sit awhile with me.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains.
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas.
I am strong when I am on your shoulders.
You raise me up to more than I can be

Hello,
They are correct above in their response. The sentence of the song is not grammatically correct...it's written this way for the poetry only.
It means "my heart is burdened"

Hello dsmith,
I don't think it's correct to say that "be" is not grammatically correct. This is the subjunctive mood (be = present tense) used in a poetic way. I agree that the subjunctive mood is not common in everyday speaking, it is used in formal or poetic texts quite often.
